Gymnastics Judging Training
Before each season, an online rules meeting must be completed to review and clarify the rules. Information about the meeting will be emailed at the start of each season.
Additionally, there are several requirements, outlined on the Arbiter, that must be fulfilled before judging begins. These include passing an online rules test, completing concussion training, and attending high school training clinics. These steps are essential for ensuring a successful judging season.

How do I get started?
- MGGOA has a mentor program for new judges. We will pair you with an experienced official to ensure you are getting the necessary training. We encourage first year judges to focus on two events.
- Practice meets with a mentor will be scheduled. Each judge uses different techniques to score a routine; seeing a variety of options will help you develop what works best for you.
- Arrive at your practice meet as if you were judging. Bring all necessary materials.
- Once you are comfortable with two events, you will be assigned meets. This timeframe is different for each judge.
